To prepare the Originally (the you know enough) cake from 1984 recipe, please follow these instructions:

Beat the sugar and eggs into a well. Flour, vanilla, cocoa and baking soda, mix well, and pour in the batter alternately with the milk. Finally, stir the melted and cooled butter in part.
